Summer is winding down, so we have to enjoy every second that we have left of it. The Fireweed says so!
Fireweed is a beautiful wildflower that grows like mad all over Alaska. It is bright and cheerful and provides color to landscapes everywhere all summer. But the story goes, that when the Fireweed is “topped out,” or rather the blossoms at the top open, that winter is 6 weeks away. Not Autumn….Winter.
So needless to say, when the temperatures in the low 50’s, and the air takes on that crisp odor, and you see things like this…you know Autumn is here, no matter what the calendar says.
Yesterday evening, we wasted no time in heading out and enjoying some of the beautiful Autumn air.
The sky was lending some beautiful contrast to the scenery, with some heavy clouds moving in our direction.
The view from the bridge.
Jack found a cool spider on the bridge. I generally don’t like it when my flash goes off, but I thought this picture turned out pretty neat.
The doggies were enjoying the walk too.
And one final picture before heading home.
