One evening this week, I was sitting on the floor of my office going through all of my camera gear to get ready for an event the next day. As I was sitting there, Chena lay in the doorway watching me, so I snapped a couple pictures of her.
Chena came into our life just over a year ago. I was walking into Earth Fare one day and there in front of Hollywood Feed was the animal rescue people….with puppies. Puppies, kittens, ferrets and other critters. We still had an empty place in our hearts from losing our beloved Bear on Mother’s Day, and I just had to go over and look at the babies.
I headed back home and told Jeff about them. Next thing I knew, we had a new member of the family. You’ve seen her all over Instagram.
Originally she was declared a husky baby because of her huge feet and husky markings.
And while she does have some characteristics of a husky, like being vocal…she often reminds me of Snoopy.
She really seems to have more non-husky traits than husky traits at this point.
Her coloring went from being all black and white, to black on her body, white legs and markings – and brown down her legs where the black & white meet. If you didn’t look at her head and just looked at her body, she looks much like a fox hound.
She has a thick, white undercoat like a husky, but overall her fur is smooth. She is has a fairly short coat, yet on her shoulders there are longer, wiry hairs – sort of like a German wirehair.
Her tail is a little longer haired, but curls straight up and over her spine when she walks. She also has webbed toes. Huskies do not have webbed toes and Chena hates, HATES the water.
And her nose? Her nose is planted firmly to the ground and she sniffs EVERYTHING, non-stop. She also eats everything and will kill any small creature she can catch – beetles, squirrels, birds, baby bunnies…
She’s a great dog – the best personality. But she is a mystery.
I’d love to hear your thoughts!
