Learn how to easily clean your shower – from the shower head to the curtains, and prevent build-up in the future!
Everyone knows how to scour the tub. It is a pretty straight forward thing. But there are a few other things you might want to do on a regular basis too.
How to Clean the Shower Head
Shower heads have a way of getting a lot of build-up on them. If you go to take a shower and notice some of the streams of spray are going off in odd directions, you’ve got build-up blocking some of the openings.
So how do you get them clean?
Here’s an easy trick, but you might need an extra pair of hands to do this.
Fill a gallon sized freezer storage bag with white vinegar. Submerge your shower head into the vinegar.
Close the bag around the nozzle and use some zip ties to hold it in place. One person may need to hold the bag while the other person does the zip-tying. Let this sit overnight.
In the morning, take a scrub brush and knock any debris off, then rinse it clean by running the water.
Done.
How often you need to do this will be dependent upon your water. People who live in areas that have a high level of minerals in the water may need to do it a couple times a year.
How to Clean Your Shower Curtain
Periodically take your shower curtain and liner down and wash them in your washing machine with some of your bath towels.
There’s no need to put the curtains in the dryer. Just hang them back up on the rod when you have finished and let them air dry.
Some fabric shower curtains may need to be ironed once they are dry, depending upon what kind of fabric they are mad of.
How to Get Soap Scum off the Shower Doors
Rather than shower curtains, you may have doors that get a soap scum build up.
Similar to cleaning the oven naturally, make a paste of vinegar and baking soda.
Spread it all over the shower door, and let it sit for an hour.
Scrub it clean with a damp scrubby sponge.
Rinse it clean and dry with a towel. Stand back and admire your sparkling-clean shower door.
How to Prevent Future Build-up
To help prevent buildup on shower doors, walls or tubs – keep a spray bottle filled with 50/50 white vinegar and water in your bathroom.
After you get out of the shower or bath, spray down the walls and tub of the shower with the spray.
This will help “de-stickify” the soap scum and slow down any build-up. Your shower and tub will stay cleaner, much longer.
