A great perk to making your own blends like this rather than getting the store-bought kind, is you can control the salt in your seasoning.

If you are on a sodium-restricted diet, this is a very important thing for you to be able to manage. While I am not on a sodium restricted diet, I have never been one for using much salt in my foods.

I often find that pre-made blends are way too salty for me and actually hurt my mouth. Not any more!

You can also modify your seasonings to better suit your tastes.

Want it spicier? Add more cayenne. Not as warm? Reduce it. It’s as easy as that!

To make Homemade Creole Seasoning you will need:

  • paprika
  • onion powder
  • garlic powder
  • oregano
  • basil
  • thyme
  • black pepper
  • white pepper
  • cayenne pepper
  • salt
  • celery seed
  • jar with lid

If you want a fine, powdered seasoning, you can pulse this in a food processor or blender until it is the consistency that you like. However, I find that this is more than sufficient for my tastes.

  1. Just used your creole seasoning to make a dish called country captain (have you heard of it?). It called for “tony chachere’s seasoning” but I used your recipe to make a substitute. Turned out amazing! Thanks for sharing your recipe!

  2. Both look great and there's something so beautiful when all the spices come together. Will be trying the Cajun mix real soon.
