As many of you know, now that we have begun planting roots in Alabama and starting a homestead, the very first thing that happened, was we ordered baby chicks.
Many years ago, we had chickens as we lived in the country for the very first time. It sparked a fire in us that kindled ever since. We knew from that point on, that some day, after Army Life was over, we would settle down and have a place in the country. Some day we would have chickens, garden, goats and more.
That day has come.
We are planting roots in Hartselle, Alabama – a small town located near Huntsville & Decatur.
Our chickens are treated like the loved family members they are. They are housed in “The Mansion” at night, and during the day they have a beautiful expanse of pasture for them to run around, scratch and be the happy chickens they were meant to be. They are fed organic laying feed and other healthy goodies.
Our chickens are what is called “Pastured.” You can read more about what that term means HERE.
There’s something to be said about what my family & friends call “real eggs.” Until you have had eggs straight from a “happy chicken” farm or backyard flock, you have no idea what you have been missing.
If you live in the greater Huntsville, Alabama area, you can now purchase my extra eggs from me. I meet people “in town” on a regular basis and schedule “meet ups” (or “egg-ups”) where people can meet me to purchase some eggs. That way they don’t have to come all the way out to the country and get them from my home.
Our girls lay brown eggs and range in sizes from larger to jumbo, with an occasional “monster” double-yolk egg. I love finding those. Eggs regularly sell for $3/dozen. I also welcome your used, empty egg cartons.
