Having fish for dinner this past week was the perfect excuse to make this.

The other day I headed to the grocery store to do some shopping and a certain young man behind the counter recommended the catfish to me. Since I was needing fish for dinner and hubby loves catfish, I obliged the young man. Of course, it could have been because the young man looked a bit like my elder son. Suspiciously so. Hmmm…

Ingredients

  • 1/3 c minced shallot
  • 1 c mayonnaise
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 Tb dill pickle relish
  • 2 Tb lemon juice

Instructions

  • Combine all in a bowl, whisk together and serve as desired. Enjoy!

Notes

NOTE: Regular onion can be used instead of shallots - I just like the mild flavor of the shallots. ALSO: After you have mixed it up, give it a sample and adjust it to taste. Like it tangier? Add a little more lemon juice. More "pickley"? a little more relish.

  1. My husband and I LOOOOOVE tartar sauce. Sometimes we think it's the best part of a fish 'n chips meal. When we were in high school, we went to McDonald's a lot and we used to ask for dishes of tartar sauce to dip our french fries in. Lol – I love the pic of your son at work. He only looks slightly embarrassed :) Your fish looks amazing too. What I wouldn't give to have a meal at your place, Constance!

  3. I'm so, so glad you posted this! I don't eat tartar sauce so it's always expired halfway through the bottle and then my husband gets mad that we don't have any. Now I can whip up my own!
