This past weekend, we headed south towards Montgomery and spent the day in Millbrook, Alabama. What were we doing there? Why we were on a foodie walk on the wild side! The Alabama Wildlife Federation was holding a wild game cook-off and we had scored some tickets from newly met neighbors.
There were cooking teams from all over the place set up when we got there, and man did it smell good! As we walked around looking at all the creative displays competitors began setting out samples of their delicious goodies.
My first taste of the day was grilled quail from this team. Yum!
My next sampling of the day was this smoked wild boar with “copper pennies” in a red wine sauce.
And then it started getting even more adventurous! This? This is alligator jambalaya!
This spread here is a pulled venison sandwich, crawfish pie, mini lobster pot pie, Cajun catfish and a couple other goodies.
There were tons of people there enjoying the goodies, and casting their votes for the people’s choice award.
After sampling elk, rabbit and more goodies, we went on a little tour of the area that it was being hosted at – the beautiful Lanark and its lovely gardens.
As you can see, it was a great day and we look forward to more southern adventures!
