This weekend past, I went on a short little trip up to Elkmont, Alabama.
We skipped the interstate and took the back country roads on a beautiful drive. What were we doing in Elkmont? It was the Southern Reinvention event and launching of Belle Chevre
There was a great crowd waiting outside for the ribbon cutting ceremony.
Once inside we got to see the brand new facility and then head on out to the grounds for the event.
Lunch was provided by Jim ‘N’ Nicks.
It was such a great day and perfect for this outdoor event. That tent you see over there, was the great people from Cooking Light Magazine.
Want to know what she is making there? Salted Caramel Goat Cheese Cheesecakes. Oh. My. Goodness. Let me just say, they melted like butter in your mouth. I absolutely got this recipe!
Our lovely hostess, Tasia Malakasis
The new creamery is located right behind the original cheese shop on the main street of Elkmont. Have I ever mentioned how much I LOVE goat milk soaps? These soaps smell amazing!
There were quite a few things to enjoy during the event. Among them, we had the treat of having Robby Melvin, Southern Living’s own test kitchen director prepare chicken chili for us. Of course it was delicious! Here’s the Recipe
There was a local beer represented. My husband was particularly interested in this.
Even some live entertainment.
Another cooking demo from Masterchef winner Whitney Miller.
Oh, and did I mention that they make cheese here? Very good cheese I might add! These are my own hands making a cheese log.
It was a great afternoon, and I look forward to enjoying the great products they make at Belle Chevre (which I can find locally at Earth Fare!) Their tasting room also has kids’ events and lovely “Saturday Supper” events. What a wonderfully delicious day.
