In the last couple weeks, I have gone berry picking a couple of times with my new neighbors.
The first time we went, we picked wild Raspberries and Blueberries. This time, while there were blueberries everywhere…I chose to focus on the wild cranberries. After all…Autumn is coming, and that means CRANBERRY SAUCE!!! Mmmmm.
You can see from this blueberry, the way it is getting a little wrinkly, that there has already been a frost in this area. That made it perfect for my cranberry gathering.
Here and there, leaves were taking on the autumn garb.
Way down yonder…that was the friend of one of my neighbors, who came along with us picking. Marilyn is actually native Alaskan, of the Yup’ik people, and taught us a few phrases in Yup’ik, and about some of the wild plants that her people would use for things like tea. She was such a joy to be around.
