Yesterday was the end-of-season Football Banquet. It involves a picnic, then handing out trophies and the newest tradition…..the Father-Son football!
Some of the younger teams.
Jack getting his trophy.
Josh getting his trophy.
Coach Dellinger being recognized. The Dellinger family is such a blessing, and they work very hard every season to make this league what it is. We will be eternally grateful to them, and will miss this league dearly after we move.
And now to the main event…..the GAMES!
First the younger boys played against the Dads.
Watching this was like watching two armies going to battle…swarms of bodies colliding in a field.
And of course, there had to be monkey-piles.
And then it was time for the BIG BOYS.
For the big boys, they divided into offensive and defensive teams against the single “Dad Team.”
The boys huddled and planned.
The Dads just stood there like lost sheep.
“What have we gotten ourselves into?”
And then it was on!
You will note that the boys had flags, and the dads didn’t. The Dads were to catch the boys’ flags to stop them….but the boys were to tag or TACKLE the dads.
At the beginning of the first play, I overheard one boy on the field saying, “Wait, they don’t have any flags.”
Another boy responded, “Yeah, we get to tackle them.”
The first boy replied, “Tackle? …………YEAHHHH!!!!!!!”
The boys learned real quick, that there was no tagging these dads. They just kept on going.
Tackling them was the only way to go.
In the end, the dads scored 20, and the boys scored 21.
It was a great time…..And like Coach Dellinger said, I’m sure some dads may have needed to take “personal days” at work the next morning.
