I realize I haven’t mentioned my feline family member in some time. Poor Hickory. He’s so neglected.
The other day, I was working on my blogging editorial calendar, and Hickory decided that he needed to supervise. It’s a good thing that my big old desk has these sturdy pull outs on both sides, or I would be in a world of hurt when it comes to writing space.
He thinks this desk is his own personal throne. Don’t all cats?
I love this desk. I found it at a yard sale at Fort Bragg back in 2004, for $25.00! My husband was deployed at the time, and my two neighbors, Mac & Dean were willing victims volunteers and helped me get it home and in the house. I remember poor Mac smashed his foot underneath one of the feet, because they sit back in from the corners and he thought he was in the safe zone as far as foot placement went. This desk is seriously heavy.
It’s one of those pieces of furniture, that when we are PCSing the movers come in, start to lift it. Stop. Look at each other…look at me. And I just look back and give them a shrug. This desk is easily over 100 lbs….empty.
I think it is actually a really old army desk, or maybe a library desk. Somewhere over the years, someone had the brilliant idea to paint the whole thing beige. And over the years, I have repeatedly said that I am going to strip the paint off and refinish it. Well…I did finally strip three of the drawers to see what was underneath. I found this gorgeous wood! This is un-stained. All I did was put some clear varnish over it. You can see how it contrasts to the hideous paint.
Well, since it isn’t searing-the-flesh-off hot outside, it is now going to be my next project. I’ve only been wanting to do this for a decade. Time to get it done!
Do you have any projects in your near future?
