I’m getting ready for hunting season with a new tool in my hunting toolbox.
This post is sponsored by Hunter’s Kloak in conjunction with The Women Bloggers, LLC. All opinions are always honest and my own.
Those of you who have been subscribers for a while know that I love to hunt. Whether it is sitting in my tree stand out back watching for a white tailed deer…
Or hunting for moose when we lived up in Alaska. I do love to hunt.
Every year when hunting season rolls around, I can feel the anticipation building. I start getting ready for it long before opening day. Here in Alabama, gun season for deer doesn’t open until mid-November, but I have already been doing maintenance on the trails, inspecting my tree stand to see if any repairs are needed, going through my equipment…and watching what is out there.
One of the things I did to get ready for the season, was head to my local Walmart to get something to “Hide my Stink.”
What do I mean by that? Well, you probably know that animals have an amazing sense of smell. You need something to hide your human scent. There are gobs of ways to do that, from fancy laundry soaps to sprays for your clothing.
Now I have to tell you, I’ve tried a number of scent products out there. I’ve used the little disks…but they invariably get lost. Every time.
I’ve used scent sprays… Ever had a bottle of hunting scent spill in your truck?
Let’s not talk about it.
So when I heard about this new Electronic Mist System from Hunter’s Kloak I was pretty excited to try it out.
It comes with the all-purpose “earth” scent to camouflage you from the noses of your quarry. But you can also get other scents to go with whatever the animals in your area might be eating. For instance, my tree stand is surrounded by oak trees. My stand is even attached to a big, old oak. So the acorn scent is the perfect fragrance to be wafting around me. You can also find apple and sugar beet scents if those suit your needs better.
The system is super easy to use. It comes with a charging cable…no batteries needed! You can plug it into any USB charging device. Then simply insert your fragrance of choice, and turn it on. The Hunter’s Kloak mister will emit puffs of the scented vapor at regular intervals: 3, 6, 9 or 30 seconds, whichever you choose. Then you can just hang the device from your tree stand, or maybe the branch of the tree next to you with the provided lanyard. And wait…..wait for the deer, the moose, or whatever your game of choice is.
One charge will last for hours and hours. Click “play” on this video (below) to see it in action.
I must say, this is a pretty, darned handy device. I’m very glad that I have added it to my toolbox for hunting season.
I’ve spent many hours already, just sitting in my tree stand, watching what was out there. Hunting season may not be open yet, but that won’t keep me from getting into the mood for it. I’ve even started having the “hunting dreams” about big bucks. I may have a problem…
Here on the homestead, deer aren’t the only thing that come to visit. Besides the usual coyotes, armadillos, raccoons, rabbits and such…there have also been several of these. This photo was snapped a couple weeks ago behind my house. There was a group of 5 of them – a mother and her nearly full grown cubs.
And a pair of these. I can’t tell you how excited I was to see these. Of course as soon as I was able to hunt them…they vanished. I do hope they make another appearance. Bacon anyone?
The wildlife is only one of the many reasons we chose to settle down and plant roots where we did. But, it is probably the most fun.

I highly recommend that you head to your local Walmart and get one for your hunting arsenal. I’m fairly certain I’ll need to get Mr. Smith one of these soon…or he’ll be trying to take mine!
