I recently had lunch with some good friends at a restaurant in Madison, Alabama.
Main Street Cafe is located in the old police station and the jail cells are still there. They have been converted into little private dining rooms.
That was the perfect place for us to have lunch. We could re-arrange the table and take photos til our hearts were content – and not have people staring at us like we were crazy. Though I do have to admit, I’m kind of used to that at this point.
I chose to have one of their signature dishes for my lunch – the Georgia Chicken. A sautéed chicken breast topped with peaches & pecan sauce, and garlic mashed potatoes, green beans and a hot yeast roll on the side. Another friend had a salad that I believe was off of their “Specials of the Day” board, and I didn’t catch the name of it. But it looked delicious!
We finished off our meals with coffee and dessert. I chose their mandarin orange cake, and another had their Coca-cola cake.
The entire meal was perfect. Our waitress, Kristy, was gracious and accommodating for us blogging nuts – even took pictures for us.
And the food….well, let me just say this: I often go to “home style” restaurants, and most of the time leave a bit disappointed. I don’t often go to one that I find myself looking forward to visiting again. There’s another one in Huntsville that is well known and (I’m told) iconic to the town. I went there once to eat, but I didn’t write about it here on Cosmopolitan Cornbread. I was that unimpressed.
Not only did the food taste like it came from mixes and cans…they actually advertise it that way on the menu!
Main Street Cafe was diametrically different than that awful experience. The chicken I was served, was some of the juiciest chicken I’d had in ages. The pecan-peach sauce, delicious. The roll was perfect and the green beans cooked soft, but not mushy. Southern style.
Everything was wonderful and I do look forward to eating there again!

Y’all are adorable. Glad you all were able to get together.
So much fun, ladies! Lots of smarts, lots of laughs, lots of charisma…and shoot, I reckon the food was pretty good too. :-) Looking forward to doing it again.
Ditto Bo! It was a great time, and great company :)
