The River Clay Fine Arts Festival, a juried arts festival in northern Alabama.
This post is sponsored by the Decatur Morgan County Convention & Visitors Bureau.
This past weekend I attended the River Clay Fine Arts Festival. This was the second year that I have headed up the road to nearby Decatur, Alabama for this event.
The River Clay Fine Arts Festival is held every year on the 4th weekend of September near downtown Decatur. Artists come from all over to participate in this juried event.
Walking through the festival and going from tent to tent, I was amazed at the skill involved creating of all the things that I saw. There were paintings and jewelry, metal works and porcelain. Just about everything you can imagine is represented in this festival.
You’ll find pottery that is simple and lovely.
You’ll also find pottery that is detailed and exquisite.
I can spend hours and hours walking through and visiting each tent. Listening to the stories of the artists. How they got started with their craft, what goes into making the beautiful pieces that they bring to the show. Sharing the passion they have and what they are saying with their art.
But this festival isn’t just for the adults. It inspires budding artists to venture out and express themselves with what they draw, paint, create.
Not only do area students have their art highlighted in a special exhibit, but there’s activities that go on for the kids to actively participate in getting creative right there on the spot.
Last year I did quite a bit of early holiday shopping. There were so many things that I just adored and immediately had people come to mind. This year was no different.
I invite you to come on out to Decatur, Alabama next year in September and visit the River Clay Fine Arts Festival. There’s a good chance you will find me sitting at the long table under the shade trees, enjoying a frozen coffee pop.
