Today I had the pleasure of stopping by the brand new Southbrew Coffee in Huntsville, Alabama.
Yesterday when I was out and about, I was tagged on Instagram in this photo…
What?! A new coffee place in town!?
Oh boy, oh boy! That is right up my alley.
So, today I headed on over to the location on their first day of business and when I pulled up I was absolutely tickled.
Why?
Because this particular coffee shop is a drive-through coffee stand.
You see, we moved here from Alaska, and in Fairbanks, there are drive-up coffee shops on the corner of pretty much every major intersection. I missed seeing those cute little shops – not to mention being able to get good coffee from private, family-owned shops – and did I mention that you can do that without even having to get out and walk across ice?
Nice!
Yep..so when I drove up and saw this adorable little shop, I could almost imagine – just for a moment – that I was back in my beloved Alaska.
Southbrew is located on Wall Triana Highway, just south of I-565, and convenient for those who use the Martin Road gate to access Redstone Arsenal. Since it is also just a hop off of I-565, it’s also a very handy stop for those traveling anywhere near the airport as well.
Meet the owners, Matthew and Kacie. Aren’t they adorable?
They are a former Army Family and spent time in the Fort Lewis area, which is just outside of Seattle. Hmmmm, might that be inspiration for starting a coffee shop? Living in the Northwest certainly would inspire me to do that!
I checked out the menu for Southbrew, and it includes all sorts of locally-sourced goodies like cheese from Belle Chevre and gluten-free baked goods from Mason-Dixon Bakery. Oh, and how can I forget…they even carry Piper & Leaf tea! You can get your jar filled! And of course, their coffee is also locally-sourced from Clover Coffee.
Now when I pulled up, I had every intention of getting a coffee drink…until I laid eyes on their Ghirardelli Smoothies. I had to have one, with a shot of espresso of course.
Delicious!!!

Oh!!! That’s awesome! I had no idea :)
If I ever have to move back to the lower 48 I am opening a drive up coffee place and I do not even drink coffee. I will have to learn to make coffee, good thing I can bake.
