The hot weather is arriving, summer is almost here and in no time we’ll be having cook outs, barbecues and picnics. Here are some of my favorite side dishes to serve during the summer months – from potato salads to slaws.
Up first, our Favorite Potato Salad. I’ll make this potato salad quite often for summer cook outs and get-togethers. I can tell you how many people who have said that they hate potato salad…love this one.
Next, a German style potato salad…Leichter Katroffelsalat.
My third potato salad for you is a Classic Warm German Potato Salad.
This one, I’m afraid I don’t have a photo of yet. I make it all the time, yet for some reason I never think to photograph it when I’m in the kitchen!
Homestyle Coleslaw makes a regular appearance at our house…I even made it for my daughter’s wedding.
Now for a fun kind of slaw. This Carrot Slaw is fresh & delicious, and very different from the kinds your normally find offered.
While on the topic of unusual salads, this Corn Salad is ridiculously simple and made with basic pantry ingredients…but you must try this. Seriously.
Now for two pasta salads – up first, Throw-Together Macaroni Salad. This simple macaroni takes minutes to “throw together” and that’s how it got the name.
And finally, Orzo Salad. With dill, garlic oil, and kalamata olives, this salad is refreshing and satisfying on a hot day. I’ll even make this as a stand alone dish for supper on a hot day.
Give some of these a try with your burgers and dogs at your next summer bash!
