A couple weeks ago, someone asked: “What food combination do you love that others think is “weird”?”
Well for me, it is probably just the opposite. It isn’t combinations that I do that people think odd…it’s the fact that I don’t like many combinations that people often love. And not just combinations, there are foods that I can’t bring myself to touch, even though they are well-loved staples to many.
For instance, I love strawberries, and I love chocolate. But I do not like strawberries dipped in chocolate. As a matter of fact, I really don’t like any fruit dipped in chocolate, with the only exception I can think of being raisins. I don’t even like the flavor of fruit with chocolate. Raspberry chocolate hot cocoa? Nope. Pumpkin anything with chocolate. No way!
Another common combination that I don’t like? Coffee and cinnamon. I love cinnamon and I really love coffee, but I do not like cinnamon in coffee. That is totally unappealing to me.
And then there is the list.
A whole list of foods that I just don’t like. Some of them I wish I liked. I see gorgeous recipes that look so visually appealing and make me drool…but I just can’t get over some of the ingredients and know I would never, could never eat them.
Some of the things on that list?
- Tomato pieces (I can’t do raw tomatoes, or even cooked pieces. Puree, sauce and such are fine. It’s a texture thing.)
- Big chunks of raw Onion
- Kiwi fruit
- Plain Eggs – omelets are great, but plain scrambled or fried eggs? Blech!
- Food coloring. I hate it! I can taste it in food. Double blech!
Believe me. There’s more. I joke that I should have named my website “The Finicky Foodie.”
What about you? Do you have foods or food combinations that cause people look at you cross-eyed when you say “No thanks” to them?
