This little yellow cake is the perfect cake to make for any occasion. Topped with a simple chocolate icing, you’ll adore this lovely little cake.
One of the great things about this cake is the simplicity of the ingredients. This cake takes basic ingredients that you’ll already have in your pantry and doesn’t even use any eggs!
To Make this Yellow Cake with Chocolate Icing you will need:
- all-purpose flour
- baking powder
- salt
- baking soda
- water
- unsalted butter
- sugar
- white vinegar
- vanilla extract
- baking cocoa
- half & half (or milk)
- powdered sugar
- mixing bowls
- whisk
- square baking pan
To make this cake you’ll preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
Lightly grease a 9-inch square baking pan. You could also spray it with baking spray or use my Baking Spray Replacement. Set it aside for now.
In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda. Stir those together and set that bowl aside for now.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together melted butter, sugar, vinegar, and vanilla.
Add in the dry ingredients and mix well.
Spread the cake batter into the pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the cake tests done with a wooden pick.
Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan sitting on a rack.
When the cake is cooled, you’ll prepare the icing.
To make the Chocolate Icing:
In a saucepan, melt butter over low heat.
Add in cocoa and half & half (or milk). Whisk those together over low heat until the cocoa is dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
Remove it from the heat and add in powdered sugar. Whisk the icing until it is smooth.
Spread the icing over the top of the cake and let it sit about 15-20 minutes for the icing to set up.
