Yesterday, the kiddos and I went to the Tanana Valley State Fair. It is the fair here in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Check out this blue ribbon winning carrot! Is it a carrot or an octopus?
Here they were weighing in monstrously large heads of cabbage!
This is the biggest one at the time we were there. That is the weight!
That’s a lot of coleslaw!
There were beautiful flowers.
And some really cool projects. Only in Alaska will you find a duct tape helmet made with caribou antlers!
Of course the Fair brings lots of vendors and displays. How about a dragon?
A fire-breathing one at that!
There were lots of entertaining shows as well.
And of course there were rides…but this one?
Riding a giant sling shot? Do you not remember my nightmare incident of the Oktoberfest swings? Let’s not even go there.
But this country girl’s favorite part of the fair?
You guessed it. The animals!!!
Some of the first we saw. I wanted to cry! I miss our pet goat Brownie!
Then we saw the bunnies!
A bushel of them!
Oh. My. Goodness!
After that barn, we headed around to see some of the big animals.
And the feathered friends.
Then I got terribly homesick for the country. Oh how I miss having beautiful girls like this Plymouth Barred Rock!
…Or these amazing Wyandottes!
…Or this gorgeous Silkie!
Yes, it made me a bit homesick for the country. I am going to love every minute of being up here in Alaska, but I am also going to really love when we settle in the country some day after army life is over.
And now I will leave you with this final little bit of enjoyment.
The races!
And what kind of races might you ask?
Why piggies of course!!!
Wee Wee Wee all the way home!
I love the goats and bunnies – so sweet.
