Homemade lotion bars are something I have made for years now, and they come in especially handy as the cooler temperatures and dry air arrive.

These lotion bars are super quick to make and are wonderful homemade gifts as well.

What You Need:

  • 1 cup coconut oil (organic, unrefined)
  • 1 cup pure beeswax (Pastilles work best as they are easier to measure and melt.)
  • 10-20 drops essential oil (such as lavender or another favorite)
  • 1 tsp Vitamin E Oil (optional)
  • molds, tins or other containers

How to Make Them:

First, combine the coconut oil and beeswax in a saucepan over low heat.

Once the oil and wax are melted, stir in the essential oils and Vitamin E oil.

Pour the mixture into molds, tins or whatever kind of containers you are using.

Allow the bars to sit at room temperature until fully cooled and hard.

Remove them from the molds (if you used them) and wrap or package as you like.

That’s it!

If you don’t have molds, the mixture can simply be poured directly into a tin or other container like these glass jars. (If using glass, warm them up a little before pouring the hot lotion into them, to prevent shattering.)

To use your lotion bar, simply rub it between your hands, or if it is in a container, rub your fingers on it, then rub it into your skin. The heat from your hand will melt the surface of the bar, allowing it to spread onto your skin.

  1. I recently made the Bees Wax Hand Lotion Bars for my daughter who lives in cold, dry climate. We are bee keepers and excited to use our own bees’ wax. I decided to make 1/2 of the recipe and used several cupcake paper liners in cupcake pan. We made 1 dozen. The Bees Wax Hand Lotion Bars came out wonderfully! I keep it by my desk and apply as desired through the day. Hope this helps my daughter. Thank you so much for your inspiration.

  2. Do the lotion bars need to be wrapped or stored any particular way? I’d like to gift them but wanted to do it without having them stick together etc. room temp is okay for them not to melt?

  3. These were super easy! Thanks for sharing with those of us learning. One question. Do you have a dedicated pan you use for the lotion bars or do you use something like Dawn to get your pan clean?
