There is absolutely nothing like decadent, homemade hot chocolate. Mixes and powders can’t hold a candle to the real deal.
My father’s favorite candy, for as long as I can remember, has always been “turtles.” You know those chocolate covered caramel & pecan treats? I’ve always like them myself and this recipe is a way to enjoy those flavors in the form of a warm, cozy drink.
There’s nothing like a cup of hot chocolate on a cold, wintery day. Wouldn’t you agree? This Turtle Hot Chocolate is sure to be your new favorite.
This time of year, I always see an abundance of the sweetened condense milk cans on sale at the grocery store. They get used for everything from fudge to bars.
In recent years, I have been finding flavored ones every holiday season. This particular recipe uses caramel sweetened condensed milk.
To begin, simply pour a can of it in a saucepan.
Add in some unsweetened baking cocoa and some regular milk (whichever kind you drink.)
Whisk this together over medium heat until it is hot and the cocoa is dissolved.
Serve it topped with a dollop of whipped cream if you like.
Then curl up with a good book, or your favorite holiday movie, and enjoy a precious moment to yourself.
If you can’t find the caramel version of the sweetened condensed milk in your area, no worries! Make this with a can of the regular, unflavored sweetened condensed milk and stir a spoonful of dulce de leche into your mug of hot chocolate.
Now for two variations of this recipe that you may just love this winter.
Classic Hot Chocolate Recipe:
Make the recipe above with unflavored, sweetened condensed milk for a classic and rich hot chocolate.
Caramel Mocha Hot Chocolate Recipe:
For a “Caramel Mocha” flavored drink, stir 2 tablespoons of instant espresso into the saucepan with the rest of the ingredients, and make as above.
Psst! Here’s another great recipe that uses the caramel sweetened, condensed milk – Turtle Crumbles
