How to make homemade Tartar sauce. It’s easier than you think!
Having fish for dinner this past week was the perfect excuse to make this.
The other day I headed to the grocery store to do some shopping and a certain young man behind the counter recommended the catfish to me. Since I was needing fish for dinner and hubby loves catfish, I obliged the young man. Of course, it could have been because the young man looked a bit like my elder son. Suspiciously so. Hmmm…
Homemade Tartar Sauce Recipe
To begin, finely mince about 1/3 cup of shallot.
Toss that in a bowl with 1 cup of mayonnaise and 2 tablespoons of dill pickle relish.
Add in about a half teaspoon each of salt & pepper and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. Whisk it all together.
It’s that simple! Enjoy it with your favorite fish.
Homemade Tartar Sauce
Ingredients
- 1/3 c minced shallot
- 1 c mayonnaise
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 Tb dill pickle relish
- 2 Tb lemon juice
Instructions
- Combine all in a bowl, whisk together and serve as desired. Enjoy!

My husband and I LOOOOOVE tartar sauce. Sometimes we think it's the best part of a fish 'n chips meal. When we were in high school, we went to McDonald's a lot and we used to ask for dishes of tartar sauce to dip our french fries in. Lol – I love the pic of your son at work. He only looks slightly embarrassed :) Your fish looks amazing too. What I wouldn't give to have a meal at your place, Constance!

Yummy, now we will have to fry up some halibut so I can make tartar sauce.
Why!!!??? Why must you torture me like that!!?? When we moved, we gave away about 10 lbs of halibut that we hadn't eaten yet from our fishing in Valdez. Man, there is nothing better than that!
