Removing the skins from a tomato need not be an intimidating chore. See how to do it the easy way.
It’s canning season and many times when you preserve tomatoes, you need to be able to remove the skins. In this episode I included a demonstration on how to do that. For those that do not have high speed internet, you can find a tutorial below the video.
How to Skin a Tomato
To begin, start a big pot of boiling water. You will also need a big bowl of ice water. When those are ready, take a knife and cut out the core and stem area from the tomato.
On the bottom of the tomato, cut an “X” into the skin.
Place the tomato in the boiling water for just a minute or so, until skin splits.
Immediately put the tomato in the ice water to stop the cooking process.
Now the tomato peel will slide right off without any effort.
*NOTE: You can skin peaches the exact same way, but no need to cut off the stem area for those. Simply cut the “X” on the bottom and do it the same as the tomatoes.
